Weddings are special - not just for the couple but also for the singer.

For a singer, there is no doubt that weddings are right up there at the top of the tree. Just last month, I was chosen as the singer at a large wedding at beautiful Balbirnie House in Fife, which is regularly voted the top wedding venue in Scotland. It was a real privilege and a very special day.
Being chosen by a couple for such a key part of their special day is quite a responsibility and needs lots of preparation. Everything needs to be crafted individually around the couple’s wishes. This involves learning or working up one or two of the couple’s special songs and weaving them into a setlist that will include their favourite genres – rock, pop, country, fold, traditional etc. - as well as their favourite artists and songs while creating the right mood and atmosphere not only for the couple but also for family and friends of all ages who will be there as guests - whether that be stripped back, emotional and romantic or a full-on dance party or often a mix of both!
And then of course everything needs to be delivered perfectly over several hours on the night without any hitches – this means getting all the equipment into the venue and set up and taken down to a tight timescale and ensuring good quality sound throughout the performance, not to mention making sure your voice is in good condition and will last the course. No pressure then!
But it is all so worth it! I love making people happy and seeing the couples in all their finery enjoying themselves with friends and family - and of course, it’s such a privilege to share in their special day and to create special memories for them like the first dance!
Another bonus is that I get to perform at lots of beautiful Scottish venues, each with its own unique atmosphere and romance. Lots of long journeys and motorway service station visits but you definitely get to see all the different areas of our beautiful country and across the seasons in all sorts of weather too!
Over the last few years, I have been lucky enough to sing at lots of other lovely wedding venues including at the historic Pittodrie House Hotel near Aberdeen, at Quarryfield House on a private estate in Munlochy near Inverness, in the huge Golf Hotel and Spa in sunny Carnoustie right on the famous golf course, at the Queens Hotel down near Gretna Green on the border with England, in atmospheric Durn House up in Portsoy on the coast, at the remote Boat of Garten Hotel right in the heart of the Cairngorms and in beautiful Spean Bridge in the Spey Valley.. Long may it all continue!
