“Country evening for truckers from across Scotland”

On Saturday evening, more than 70 truckers from all over Scotland gathered at JG McWilliams huge transport hub in Huntly with their families for an evening of country music by Debbie Abbott. They were in good spirits and full voice after attending a commercial vehicle show nearby and danced the night away to numbers by a wide range of traditional and modern country artists across the decades.

It really was the perfect venue for a Country Music event with a converted open-side trailer as the main stage, held inside the historic Strathbogie covered market. Hearty fare and of course plenty of beer were served throughout the night! Outside were row upon row of trucks lined up, resplendent in the liveries of their respective transport companies, providing some truly fantastic photo opportunities before the event got underway!

Debbie performed three sets of covers of popular Country, Americana and Rock & Roll songs from the 50s through to the current day. These included numbers by the Country greats such as Dolly Parton, Johnny Cash, Patsy Cline, Glen Campbell, Loretta Lynn, Merle Haggard, Billie Jo Spears, Kenny Rogers, John Denver and Tammy Wynette as well as Rock and Roll greats like Chuck Berry and Elvis Presley. There was also a good selection of more recent Country artists like Lady Antebellum, Tanya Tucker, Brooks & Dunn, Elle King, The Steeldrivers, Billy Ray Cyrus , Lonestar and Shania Twain as well as today’s current US Country superstars like Luke Combs and Kane Brown to name a few!

Country music is one of Debbie’s favourite genres and she always includes plenty of country and rock and roll numbers in her mixed sets at weddings, anniversaries, parties and lounge events at hotels and other venues across Scotland so it was an absolute pleasure for her to do a full evening of country from start to finish. Altogether a very special and memorable night!

Of course, this isn’t the first time Debbie has performed country gigs - her previous events have included "Boots, Hats and Cowboy Chaps” in Dunfermline's Carnegie Conference Centre and as lead singer in the Duke Boys country band at Northern Nashville Country Music Club in Thurso.

Why not head over to Debbie's Facebook page to listen to some of her brilliant Country Music covers.
